Dianna Cates Dunn » Tools of the Trade

Tools of the Trade reveals the essential interplay between form and texture through a bold abstract language. Large black and deep red shapes anchor the composition against a soft off-white background, creating a striking contrast that invites reflection. The vibrant green lines, both splattered and streaked, cut across the canvas with purposeful energy, guiding the eye through the dynamic space. Accents of red and orange circles bring moments of balance and rhythm, while curved and zigzag orange lines frame portions of the image, adding an intricate layer of movement. The tactile surface, built from layered acrylic and original collage paper, emphasizes the physicality of the materials and the artist’s hands-on approach. This work honors the tools and processes integral to creation, offering a visual meditation on the quiet strength found in the materials that shape artistic expression.
